It’s tradition for the adidas family to celebrate Chinese New Year by launching an array of cultural-inspired footwear. Following the reveals of its commemorative ZX 420 and four-pronged basketball collection, the Three Stripes has extended its Year of the Ox range with a fresh cow-patterned adidas Superstar colorway.
Colors and materials on this lifestyle makeup are essentially identical to the aforementioned ZX 420, only they are fashioned to best fit the iconic silhouette. Pony hair materials which are employed along the side panels are the highlights of the shoe as they alternate between light beige backgrounds and blotches of brown to best translate the look and feel of cattle hide. Clean white paint smothers the shell toes and heel overlays, the latter of which trades out the usual Trefoil branding for Chinese characters. Additionally, bold “Rush Red” trim is distributed to the stripes, tongue tabs and interior lining, while the ring that sits on on the throat — a potential nod to a cow’s nose ring — is drenched with a gilded finish.
Downstairs, the shoe continues its lighter theme by cowling the midsoles with angelic hues and pairing them up with “Rush Red” outsoles.
These celebratory sneakers are available now through select retailers like atmos for $131.
