With this year’s London Marathon just weeks away, official sponsors New Balance have unveiled two exclusive marathon-inspired 1500 sneakers, one available to purchase, the other needs to be worked for.
Following the postponement of the 40th London Marathon earlier this year as a result of the COVID-19, the 2020 event will feature three elite races on an altered course around the capital.
Designed in conjunction with London-based run club Run The Boroughs, each limited-edition 1500 sneaker has been crafted using a premium pigskin and mesh upper, both also boasting the brand’s ENCAP midsole.
Paying homage to the inaugural 1981 London Marathon, each sneaker features an embroidered ‘2:11:48’ on the side, the marathon time set by both Dick Beardsley and Inge Simonsen that year.
Arriving in a white, grey and “Ruby” red colorway, this colorway will be available from October 3, while the second all-black iteration needs to be earnt. Unavailable to purchase anywhere in the world, only those participating in the 1500 Pub Dash Challenge will be in with a chance of winning them, by running 2.62 miles and incorporating a local pub en route.
40 winners will then be selected at random and sent the all-black 1500s along with an exclusive post-race package. You can find out more about the 1500 Pub Dash Challenge here and purchase the “Ruby” colorway via the New Balance webstore from October 3.
