The 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo may not kick off until this summer, but Nike Sportswear is getting in the spirit a little early with an Air Max 97 “Olympic Rings” pack. Made up of “Amarillo,” “Challenge Red,” “Lucky Green,” “Photo Blue” and “Black” styles — one for each of the 5 Olympic rings — the pack is a colorful homage to international athletic competition.
Although each pair in this commemorative quintet equips a different color, each applies it in a similar style. Uppers are constructed of mesh and overlaid with sleek bullet train-inspired stripes, themselves coated in hi-vis reflective material. The most noticeable alteration arrives via the mudguard, which trades out its standard synthetic construction in favor of a soft suede.
Branding is kept uniform as well, thanks to gold midfoot Nike Swooshes and gold detailing on the heel tabs. The most noticeable pop of flair on all 5 styles arrives via the tongue pull tab, which uses each and every Olympic color in tandem for its podium-ready stripes. White EVA foam midsoles, soft grey Air Max cushioning units and black rubber outsoles round everything off.
All 5 silhouettes from the Nike Air Max 97 “Olympic Rings” pack are available now via the Nike webstore. The MSRP for each is set at $170 USD.
