Louis Vuitton recently unveiled images of the travel trophy case it has designed for the NBA. The hand-crafted trophy travel case will house the The Larry O’Brien Trophy that is awarded to the NBA Finals winner every June. The multiyear partnership between the two entities will make Louis Vuitton the first official trophy travel case provider for the professional sports league.
The trophy case was hand-crafted in Louis Vuitton’s historic workshop just outside of Paris. It features an all-over Louis Vuitton logo monogram print with an oversized “V” across the front doors that elegantly carries over to the inside display when opened. The iconic monogram print is contrasted with an of-the-moment royal blue interior that serves as a stark contrast to the trophy’s gleaming surface. Traditional brass hardware reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s vintage trunks rounds out the design.
The ongoing collaboration, called “Victory Travels in Louis Vuitton,” marks Louis Vuitton’s first-ever partnership with a North American sports league, even though it has a history designing trophy trunks for other leagues, including the International Tennis Federation and the League of Legends world tournament. “Louis Vuitton has long been associated with the world’s most coveted trophies, and with this iconic partnership the legacy continues – victory does indeed travel in Louis Vuitton,” affirms Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO Michael Burke.
In addition to the trophy case, the NBA and Louis Vuitton have also recently confirmed that a limited edition Virgil Abloh-designed apparel and accessories capsule collection is on the way. Both the travel case and capsule collection are expected to be unveiled during an exclusive event at the Louis Vuitton flagship in Paris. The announcement will come in advance of the first regular-season NBA game in Paris on January 24, where the Charlotte Hornets will play against the Milwaukee Bucks.
