Vans is partnering with pro-surfer and creative visionary Alex Knost for a new sneaker collection. The two are bringing back one of the oldest designs in the footwear’s archive, the Style 36 Decon SF, while also upgrading the Sk8-Hi 138 Decon SF.
Alex Knost’s new and original takes on the classic silhouettes were inspired by his ‘80s Coupe de Ville Cadillac, using the colors found in his retro car and transforming them into a color palette. As part of the vegan patent leather sneaker collection, the Style 36 Decon SF is given a glossy “Bitter Chocolate” colorway. Knost also upgrades the Sk8-Hi 138 Decon SF in a shiny “Dress Blues” and brown colorway, the exact inverse of the Style 36 Decon SF. Both sneakers have vulcanized natural gum soles, rubber toecaps, and Vans’ UltraCush insoles.
Inspired by surfing’s subculture and ’60s and ’70s skateboard design, Alex Knost continues to deepen his connection to the sport while exploring various artistic mediums. His involvement in Tomorrow Tulips, what L.A. Record magazine calls “lo-fi minimal experimental psychedelia,” shows that his deep influence extends beyond surfing alone to other creative initiatives.
Shop the entire collection now at Vans.com. The Style 36 Decon SF is available for $67 USD and the Sk8-Hi 138 Decon SF for $74 USD.
