Vans x Commonwealth “Desert Sage”

With Taka Hayashi‘s latest Vans Vault collection taking on classics like the Authentic One and 138 Mid LX, other collaborators have also tuned in to display their unique spins over a spread of fresh rubber waffles. Unveiled is the debut collaboration between Vans and retailer Commonwealth.

First originated in Norfolk, Virginia, Commonwealth has built a reputation for itself, working closely with various artist’s like Virginia-native Pharrell Williams, Clipse and Bun B, while creating a space centered around art, design, skate and street culture. This time around, the retailer has teamed up with Vans on two iconic silhouettes — Era and Slip-On.

Inspirations from the art world, the military, and current events have been the prime considerations for the design of the sneakers. Both silhouettes are graced with uppers of premium suede. The Era comes in a light olive-tint, dubbed “Desert Sage.” Tiny black checkerboards grace the top edge of the midsole above the words “Every Generation Needs A New Revolution.” The Slip-On, tinged in “Lark Tan,” sees a beige upper that’s complemented by a crisp white sole. In contrast to the Era, checkerboard stripes appear on the foxing tape while the words “People Everywhere Are Created Equal” are placed above. As a finishing touch to the sneakers, Commonwealth branding is subtly placed on the reverse of the woven Vans tab.

The Vans x Commonwealth collection will be available May 18 on Commonwealth’s website and at its flagship stores for $120 USD.
