America’s favorite sandwich cookie is taking on another iconic dessert: the Hostess-style cupcake.
Oreo revealed its newest flavor is Filled Cupcake at a “Wonder Vault” Tuesday morning in New York City. The vault will be open to the public all day, and it shows people a quick video about the new treat before a cookie comes down a conveyor belt.
The limited-edition flavor will be available across the country on Feb. 8, at $4.49 a package.
The new flavor resembles a vanilla crème-filled Hostess cupcake: chocolate cookies sandwich a chocolate crème with a dollop of vanilla crème in the center. Yahoo Food got a preview of the new flavor, and we thought the crème was even creamier than regular Oreos, with a strong vanilla scent, but lacking a chocolaty punch.
The new cookie is part of a host of flavors Oreo has introduced in recent years, including Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon Bun, and Oreos Thin. Some limited-edition flavors, like Red Velvet, have proved so popular they made it into the permanent lineup.

The company says that at any given time, it is testing 50 prototyped flavors and considering 100 other flavor ideas, many of which come from customers. Flavors coming to market take anywhere from 12 to 18 months to develop before they are ready for release.
Those in the New York area interested in the Wonder Vault can stop by 245 W. 18th Street for samples of the new flavor. And those outside New York are encouraged to follow the hashtag #wondervault on social media to determine where the cookie maker should pop up next.
