For this year’s Rose Bowl between The University of Oregon Ducks and The University of Wisconsin Badgers, Nike once again went the extra mile for the uniforms of their hometown college. In particular, Nike outfitted the Ducks in a unique chrome helmet, although not without some controversy. While some were worried the reflective nature of the head gear would affect opposing players’ vision during the daytime contest, one thing is for certain – these helmets continue to define football’s ever evolving mode of dress. They were ultimately approved for use by the NCAA, and Oregon went on to win a thrilling down-to-the-wire game 45-38, putting up the second most offensive yards in Rose Bowl history with 621 yards.
