The Nike P-Rod series has been an interesting one. Lots of colorways have premiered on this high end skate shoe, including a controversial of treatments to transform the sneaker into a Jordan-esque model, hence the term J-Rod. This newest J-Rod 2 is one of the best to date. The elephant print and classic Bulls colorway easily imitate a basketball sneaker, but still stay true to it’s skate roots. Available soon at select Nike accounts… just in time for the ‘08 X-Games.

Nike is not backing down. Lately it has seemed like release after release is “inspired” by the Beijing Olympics. However, many of the past releases have come across very forced with over the top colors and patterns, but the Nike AF1 Bird Nest Tweed’s are refreshingly understated. The upper is a two-toned tan colorway and a textured crisscross panel that is based off Beijing’s Bird Nest looking Olympic Stadium. Look for the Nike Bird Nest Tweed to release on August 1st at select Nike retailers.

For the few who may not be familiar with the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, it stars Matthew Broderick and continues to be one of the biggest movies to come out of the 1980’s. Nike has drawn inspiration from the oh-so loveable Ferris and created the Nike SB “Ferris Bueller” Dunks. The leather upper of the shoe has taken the color scheme from Ferris Bueller’s leather Jacket, and also features a leopard print tongue with matching laces, similar to his infamous vest. It is a bold design that perhaps only a select few will appreciate, but chances are once you put a pair of these on, you’ll instantly get that Ferris Bueller swagger.

With all of the killer mens focused footwear designs being released as of lately, there is a good chance that many Sneakerettes are feeling neglected. But the ladies are now feeling the love with the release of the Reebok Freestyle sneaker in collaboration with French boutique ‘Colette’, and the well-established women’s street wear brand ‘Married To The Mob’. The upper is white patent leather that is bombarded by red MOB lipstick logos. These kicks are only for the bold and those who don’t dawdle, as only 350 pairs have been produced. ?uestlove of The Roots has created the “Air Questo” Air Force 1’s as part of Nike’s 1World collection. ?uestlove has said that he “just wanted to start off with a very loud statement, a sneaker that sort of has 12 exclamation points behind it. Something that just screams ‘Rahhhrr’”. I think it is fair to say that he pulled it off with a flashy colorway of burgundy and bright green elephant print. Not to mention the ?uestlove silhouette image on the back heel. Nice touch.

Nike has tapped into the back-to-school market, and has released the Grad School Air Max ’90 Premium (pictured above) and the Grade School Dunk Low Premium; both apart of the Nike Notebook Edition. Both designs are very similar with a black and white colorway; the crackled pattern used for the classic notebook, and a pattern that is all to familiar -the blue lined paper with a red line down the side. The Nike Grad/Grade school series definitely gets kudos for creativity, and who knows, these kicks may take you to the head of the class.
Known for his gifted ability to play the guitar and tell women that their bodies are wonderlands, John Mayer has teamed up with Kaws for a new project. The two have created a collection of guitar picks that feature Kaws’ most well known icons; each design is also signed and dated by their respective artist. Mayer admits that some lucky front row fans will inevitably go home with the guitar picks at his concerts. Hold your hands up high and cross your fingers!

Yuck. First word that came to mind when I first saw the preview of this newest collabo Dunk. Co-branded with the Skatepark of Tampa, this Dunk Mid SB is inspired by their infamous murky moat and events that take place there. Thank god this release is somewhat limited…

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Fort Minor, has done a second collaboration with DC for the Remix Series project. Shinoda didn’t take the far too typical celebrity designer approach, and simply suggest a few concepts here and there. His artwork is literally all over the series. With a formal art education from the Art Center College of Design in California, Shinoda has used his passion for art and perhaps his Japanese ancestry to create traditional Japanese patterns and Koi scale textures as a theme for the project, which is made up of two models, the MSDC Xander and the MSDC Pride. The uppers, insole, outsoles, and footbeds, are all designed off of Mike’s artwork.
Both models will be available starting August 1st at exclusive footwear boutiques worldwide and on Mike’s website.
